TANK-ARET: [ taking ] space
[ taking ] space fuses spoken word and song and asks how the stories of our past affect the tales of our present if we’re to shape the narratives of the future.

The 4 women justices of the Supreme Court are erudite, well-read and punk as fuck, and they’re here to judge the patriarchy. An asteroid is headed for earth, but it could mean the end of systemic sexism (so maybe it’s not all bad). Sandra, Ruth, Elena and Sonia have the power to save the world, but will they take it? Time for oral arguments, jerks! PATRIARCHY! is a raging feminist nightmare, but it’s the last chance Earth has got.

The Tank is thrilled to celebrate Pride month with the debut of “Postcards from the Rearview Mirror”; the latest one-woman musical by queer cabaret artist, Sabrina Chap, at the Tank on June 24th at 7 pm!
Part radio musical, part theatrical heartbreak, “Postcards from the Rearview Mirror” tells the story of two queer teens who escape the violence of their Florida homes for the bright lights of Hollywood.
Chap’s one woman show is a musical abstraction of queer heartbreak; combining video projections, audio playback and postcards home as monologues. A cross between PJ Harvey and Tegan & Sara, Chap’s songs are infused with desire, hope, revenge and heartbreak. The piece is visually scored with video projections by Anna Hovhannessian.
Postcards from the Rearview Mirror will be presented for one night only at the Tank at 312 W. 36th St. NY, 10018
and is presented in Conjunction with Tank-aret: a cabaret series for women, queer and trans artists, artists of color and differently abled artists.
Tank-aret is a monthly cabaret series now in its second year at The Tank. Curated by musical theater writing team EllaRose Chary and Brandon James Gwinn (Dramatists Guild Fellows; Ars Nova Uncharted Residents; Cotton Candy and Cocaine; TL;DR: Thelma Louise: Dyke Remix). Every month Tank-aret will feature an evening of exciting new work by artists not traditionally represented in cabaret and musical theater spaces. The intention is to lift up the voices of women, queer and trans artists, artists of color, differently abled artists, and anyone else who has some cabaret magic!

Anessa Marie and Danny Bristoll are thrilled to be debuting FINDING BEAUTIFUL, a refreshing, pared-down version of their original concert, Beautiful as a part of Tankaret. Featuring many never-before-heard songs, FINDING BEAUTIFUL focuses primarily on the often troubled, sometimes heartbreaking, yet optimistic life perspective of those within the LGBTQ+ community from day to day. Following their success of Beautiful along with a concert reading of their musical, A Glimpse of the Rainbow, Anessa and Danny can not wait to share a more intimate experience of the music.

Once every couple of years, Maybe Burke's birthday falls on Thanksgiving. This is one of those years. Join Maybe as they do basically whatever they want, because that's how birthdays work. From Accidental Trans Anthems to original parodies to some songs that they just always wanted to sing. Special Guests TBA because no one likes to party alone. (Like Maybe has for several birthdays.)
What's that sound? It's America's Favorite All-Boy Band's (aka AFAB) fresh of their latest world tour with their brand new show, BACK IN THE USSA! Due to the recent discovery of some "very dangerous mold" at Madison Square Garden, AFAB's new manager, Bradlee Waldroop, has re-booked the band at The Tank, located at 312 W 36th Street. "With a name like The Tank, it's obviously a large and imposing venue similar to MSG. I'm sure it will be fine," said Ms. Waldroop moments before walking in to a glass door at AFAB's press conference this morning.
This totally legitimate and not-at-all-fake celebrity boy band features the talents of everyone's favorite outdoorsman, Jackson Abernathy, along with everyone's favorite shy guy, Jayke Malone! The bro too cool for school, Gavin Miles, is the third member of AFAB, and smart guy Spencer Murray brings us to four. The fifth member of AFAB is another guy who will definitely be there that night. AFAB has been compared to 2gether, Spinal Tap, DuJour, and The Folksman, and has a unique style that is all their own. These gentlemen have performed in front of Kings, Queens, and Presidents around the world, have sold more records than any other band called AFAB, and are all definitely cisgender men.
In BACK IN THE USSA (a misprint according to Ms. Waldroop, but now standing for "United StateS of America"), AFAB will be honoring the boy bands that came before them by covering some of the greatest hits by groups like One Direction, New Kids on the Block, Boys II Men, Backstreet Boys, Nsync, and more! There will be plenty of surprises during BACK IN THE USSA, and even a Q&A session where lucky audience members will get to ask the boys about anything at all that does not involve taxes! This concert is directed by Donnie Cianciotto.

Kings is a show about history, masculinity, and why they're both ridiculous. An exercise in braggadocio, a disputation of the great man theory of history, a rock concept album, and most importantly a PARTY, this show uses drag to parody historical heroism and to give everyone else a chance to wear the pants.
